WHO AM I?

Hi! I'm Smedis2. I am a conniseur of weird old video games nobody cares about and sometimes I make games under the name RED-FIRE! The RED-FIRE "brand" originated from when I was about 7 years old and coming up with a company name I thought would sound cool. It stuck, and I've been using it ever since. At the moment, I use Godot Engine to develop games. I've also worked in other engines (formerly, I was a Construct 2 user, as well as dabbling for a year in GameMaker Studio). I also make Doom WADs sometimes, though I've been looking into getting into proper 3D development as of late..

WHAT KIND OF GAMES DO I MAKE?

The games I make generally tend to be action games, like 2D shooters or platformers, though I have dipped into other things from time to time. A lot of my general influences come from the fast-paced action games from the 8-bit to 32-bit console era. I also like having somewhat-meaningful stories in my games, even if what I'm making doesn't really need it. A lot of my earlier games are very much fan projects using assets from other works and throwing my own weird twists on them, but as of late I've been getting into making my own works.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE GAMES?

As previously mentioned, I enjoy fast-paced arcadey experiences, though there are a few notable exceptions that intrigue me in other ways. Picking exact favorites is incredibly hard, since there's so many I've played that have elements I adore, and even some that I enjoy ironically. Some of my favorites include Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Metal Slug X and 3, Osman, Fantasy Zone, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, WarioWare, and many, many more. There's also some games that I enjoy for just being bold and weird, even disregarding the actual quality of gameplay, like Suda51's works, Hideo Kojima's works, and pretty much everything by Korean arcade developer SunA. Not to mention the numerous "kusoge" type games I absolutely get a kick out of. I'm probably one of the three people on earth who will openly admit that I love Plumbers Don't Wear Ties (so much so it's referenced in my 404 page)! I love digging around the libraries of consoles and arcade manufacturers to find the more obscure of obscure titles.

WHO'S THE ROBOT MASCOT CHARACTER?

His name is Steele. He's currently the mascot of RED-FIRE despite not having his own proper game. The thing is, he was supposed to! His design came out when I was trying to make a spaceship for the aforementioned game, but thought it looked more humanoid so I made him a weird beetle-like design (it makes more sense from a top-down view). The name came from ""Stainless Steel Rat". Formerly his full name was "Stainless Steele", but I just stuck with the last name as it's catchier and less painfully punny. He makes a cameo in almost all of my works, either as part of the intro logo or an easter egg somewhere in the game.

WHO'S THIS OTHER CHARACTER THAT KEEPS SHOWING UP?

That's Keith Patary! He's the main protagonist of one of the series I've wanted to make for over a decade. He has made an official debut in HAFFY DX, but I have much bigger plans for him in the future alongside numerous other characters. He's a mutation of a character I made in a certain licensed video game about bricks and funny space wizards with light swords. The horns were a complete accident trying to draw him one day, and I liked it so much I stuck with it.
